Christmas break was too good to me. I got to enjoy some family time, worked, and relaxed, which is rare. I also got to meet up with my best friend, Kate, for a morning coffee run and girl talk time. Even though I would have loved to spend more time with her before she left, I’m glad I was able to see her.:)
I was able to enjoy quite a few longer runs.:)
My niece is a champ. She got her ears pierced and didn’t even shed a tear. I’m so proud:)
I’m glad I was able to relax over break because today I had orientation for pharmacy school, and it is going to be a crazy, exciting semester. I pretty much have tests every week. I’m excited, a little intimidated, but excited.:) It pretty much lasted all day so I will be going to get my books and whatever else I need tomorrow. I also get my new laptop tomorrow! I’m so excited to upgrade to a MacBook Pro especially since my Mac is like 5 years old.
Did you guys see the article on Runner’s World about The Benefits of a Killer Training Week?
It talks about how in Norway, some researchers studied how training normal for 3 weeks, like having one hard workout then the rest easy workouts, then on the 4th week adding in more than just five hard workout would benefit a person in running. They had a traditional running group that fit in 2 hard interval workouts with the rest of their workouts as easy workouts. They mentioned that when you try to cram in all workouts into one week, you can’t pay enough attention to each workout. By doing more hard workouts on the 4th week, they saw an increase in athlete’s VO2 max (maximum oxygen consumption). The “traditional” groups VO2 max didn’t increase as much as the other group. It’s a really good article to check out. I might have to try training like that sometime to see if it helps.
I was craving lasagna tonight. I used the Hungry Runner Girl’s recipe because it was super easy. The final result was amazing! It was so filling, and it was loaded with veggies, which I loved.
Fresh out of the oven.:)
I added a side of broccoli. So good.
Would you try adding more hard workouts every 4th week?
Favorite lasagna recipe?
I like anything with veggies.:)

/ January 9, 2013Sounds like a new twist on intervals and they work! Worth trying it!

/ January 9, 2013That’s all well and good, and it probably would work for someone really experienced, but for someone new it could cause injury. I wouldn’t do it just because I wouldn’t want to out the effort in. Haha.

/ January 9, 2013Yea I agree that training isn’t about going hard all of the time…that’s what the races are for
